Human communication is the act of conveying a message to another. Talking is the most common form of communication. However there are also non-verbal communication methods such as facial expressions and body language. Besides, it is also referred as any communication done between humans that can be either in the form of speech, letters, emails, texts, or sign language.
Communication is relatively important because it lets the other person or persons know what you are feeling. If we didn't say anything to each other we would not know what was going on inside of the others mind. Thus, this subject 'Effective Public Communication' as explained briefly is to train the students so that they are able to talk confidently and express their thoughts and ideas verbally by communicating with others.
Assignment 1- Photo Blog
Students were required to produce a photo blog which consists of 25 to 30 photos of a particular setting or scene at any ONE location of our choice. In addition to that, students need to include necessary write-up about 20 to 30 words per picture together
with captions to further highlight your story on the blog. The photos should focus on or portray life in the following areas: -
a. People – ethnic background, gender, age, description of clothes.
b. Food – types of food available or food presentation at hawker stalls or restaurants.
c. Activities – kinds of activities found in the surrounding of the suggested location.
d. Cultural conservation on buildings – Façade, interior and exterior design of the building and ornamentation.
Then, a presentation was held for students to present their blog to the class and the tutor.

student’s ability to research information to support the arguments proposed in the
blog, to cite the sources of information and also to provide a list of references. Additionally, it allows for increased feelings of ownership of knowledge and learning that supports realistic and authentic ways to participate in learning.
A few examples of learning outcomes of this assignment is to ensure that the students may apply the principles of communication and behaviour in analyzing interaction with others, both at individual and at group levels. Besides, students have to be aware of the importance of cultural differences and respect cultural differences as well as to build healthy and positive relationships with fellow students, co-workers and clients.

Reflection
After completing this assignment, I found that I have achieve the goal and objective of the assignment where I can now not only communicate well with my friends and individuals around me but can also cooperate with my team mates to successfully accomplish the task assigned by our mentor. We divided the work among the six of our group members evenly so that everyone would have a chance to contribute to the assignment; hence, we now understand that the spirit of cooperation is relatively important in our life.
Assignment 2- Oral Presentation
Students were required to choose ONE traditional dwellings from any continents of our choice and describe the following:
a. Historical background of the country.
b. Structure and layout.
c. Types of ornamentation used
d. Type of materials used.
Students were then acquired to perform either a live presentation in class or by video shooting it and play it on the presentation day.

The learning outcomes of this assignment were same as the first assignment, where the intention was to ensure that students were able to apply the principles of communication and behaviour in analyzing interaction with others, both at individual and at group levels; to be aware of the importance of cultural differences and respect cultural differences as well as to build healthy and positive relationships with fellow students, co-workers and clients; and lastly to communicate the relevant ideas in a clear, logical and appropriate academic English.

Assignment 3 (Final Project)- Comic Presentation

It is very entertaining to read comic strips. Most of us may have read them in the newspaper or maybe even a comic book. Even if we have never read them, we can appreciate the humour they give to others. Thus, students were given a chance to make our very own comic strip in cooperative groups where cooperation among group members is needed to complete the task.
This assignment is to create a 3 A3 size comic strip which describes events related to our daily life, special occasions and events in our campus that ranged from talking about scenes in a classroom, completing an assignment, preparing for an exam, waiting outside a lecture hall or any interesting incidences that is taking place in our campus.
Aim & Accomplishment
The assignment aims to evaluate student's oral presentation and annotating skills. It also evaluates the student’s ability to convey their message in the form of images/ comic strips and present an effective presentation of his/her comic. In addition, being a group assignment, each student will experience cooperating and collaborating with other peers as a team with a common goal.
The learning outcomes of this assignment were same as the first two assignments.

After completing this assignment, I had possessed the skill to convey messages to audience in the form of images and apart from that, I do found that this skill is a necessity for students especially those in the architecture and design courses because they should be able to present their ideas by using particular images in the future. I appreciate that we were given such a chance to create our own comic strips as this would further enhance our drawing skills and creativity besides from communication skills.
Overall Reflection
During the completion of the 3 assignments mentioned above, I had learned a lot of things from it. For instance, I realized the importance of the ability to convey one's idea & thinking clearly to others so that people would be able to understand his/ her thoughts easily. Besides, I had learned to listen to my team mate’s words and think carefully before proposing or giving a different idea so that conflict would not happen easily among us. It is relatively important for one to ‘Digest’ a person’s word before reacting/ coming out with a solution and to be able to rephrase his/ her words as this is the only way to reduce misunderstanding between two individuals. Moreover, I learned that teamwork is rather significant not only in University’s life, but also when a person has started in his career. An individual would always need to follow what a leader says and try his/ her best to cooperate with other individuals in order to make an event/ idea/ project successful. No one in this world is able to stand alone without others help…We are not perfect…Hence, the spirit of cooperation should exist especially in a team of members with different backgrounds and opinions.
