Design Visualization

 Assignment 1- Sketches

In this project, we were required to produce 8 number of sketches (free hand sketches) on suitable A5 size paper in landscape mode.

Things we required to sketch are the followings:

Body Parts/ Figure/ Nature
Object
Geometric Projection
Sketch your own city
One point perspective
Two point perspective
Detail Drawing
Tracing

Reflection

The learning outcomes intended for this assignment were to recognize the potential for creativity, self-expression and visual awareness as well as to identify the fundamental principles, elements and techniques in sketching, drawing, design process and presentation skills. The objectives of this project are to identify a personal and expressive response to visual stimulation and to apply basic principles and elements of design and drawing as a language to visualize and to communicate ideas.

After completing this assignment, I am now able to sketch & render drawings with the right rendering techniques; for instance, cross hatching, zigzag, stippling, etc. These are some of the most common rendering techniques used by the designers/ architects when they produce sketches; thus, it is relatively important for us to pick up these skills so that we can make us of these skills in the future.

Assignment 2- Measure, Draw & Diagram

Project 2 is divided into two parts: Project 2A and Project 2B. For Project 2A, we were required to to illustrate orthographic drawings and applying basic drawing conventions and representation. We will be given a site to be measured, observed and presented in drawings form for presentation purposes. As for Project 2B, we were required to illustrate Bubble Diagrams and Diagrammatic Analysis through observation and drawings of the site given in Project 2A.

The site shared among my group members was reception centre in the library but we were require to produce the following drawings individually:

Introduction to the site
Layout Plan

Elevation 03

Reflection

The learning outcomes intended for this project were to enable us to identify the fundamental principles, elements an drawing as a language to visualize and to communicate ideas and to demonstrate observation skills and able to report, organize, interpret and describe a variety of issues through visual communications effectively. Besides that, it is also to enable us to manipulate a variety of media and techniques to visualize ideas leading to a finished product and to apply drawing as a means of communication in order to express two dimensional and three dimensional ideas.

After completing this assignment, I am now able to obtain the accurate measurement of a space/ place and apply it on paper by using the correct scale. Besides, I realized the importance of drawing bubble diagram through completing this project as this is the simplest way for a person to show the information of a particular space. People would be able to understand the site easily by just looking at the bubble diagram since it is drawn in bubbled form.

Assignment 3- Site Analysis

Project 3 will introduce us to site investigations (group work) and case study (individual work). Based on the site given in project 2, we were required to study and analysis the site. After analyzing the site, as a group, we were to produce 10-15 A3 papers of the followings:

Cover page of Site Analysis
Location Plan
Site Context
Size & Zoning
Natural & Man-made Physical Features
Circulation
Utilities
Sensory Perception + Visual Quality
Human Culture & Activities
Climate
SWOT Analysis
Individually, we were require to come up with a “case study” and propose and idea to show what would be suitable for site and to fit the Final Project requirements.

Reflection

The learning outcomes intended for this assignment were to demonstrate observation skills and to be able to record, organize, interpret and describe a variety of issues through visual communication effectively as well as to manipulate a variety of media and techniques to visualize ideas leading to a finished product. The objectives of this project are to enable us to demonstrate observation and visualization skills in a variety of ways with an emphasis on the process of drawing. It is also to enable us to develop confidence to use drawing as a means of communication to express two dimensional and three dimensional ideas.

After completing this assignment, I have obtained the skill to produce a site analysis of a particular given site. Information of the site such as the circulation of people/ vehicles, visual quality of the site, natural & man-made features, etc would be drawn and annotated on an A3 paper. The ability to produce a site analysis is also very important to us in the future as we would first have to understand the site before we come up with a design at the particular site. If we are not able to understand the site before designing, our proposed design would not be z good design.

Assignment 4- Final Project ( Wall Installation)

Project 4 is divided into two parts: Part A and Part B. In part A, we were required to document our design ideas and process of obtaining our design that will eventually lead to our final design. During this process we will produce numerous sketches or doodling to come up with the best idea. In part B, after finalizing our design in Part A, we are required to prepare the presentation board on 2 A2 papers of our choice.

Reflection

The learning outcomes intended for this assignment were to demonstrate observational skills and able to record, organize, interpret and describe a variety of issues through visual communication effectively as well as to manipulate a variety of media and techniques to visualize ideas leading to a finished product. The objectives of this project were to enable us to demonstrate good observation and visualization skills in a variety of ways depending on the area of specialization being pursued with an emphasis on the process of drawing and also to enable us to develop a confidence in using drawing as a means of communication to express two dimensional and three dimensional ideas.

After completing this assignment, I found out that I have actually obtained the skills to propose a new design and to prepare it formerly onto a presentation board. Now I realized the importance of a presentation board also besides from proposing a good design. A presentation board is relatively important for a person to present his idea during a presentation because he/ she would need to present all the necessary information on it in order for others to understand his design (presenting the ideas only by using model is not sufficient).

  1. 1.There should be one page of introduction of the course and profile of your self.

    2. acceptable reflections.. but there's room for improvement.

    3. Good annotations and information under the images.

    4. Missing Information about the Journal exercise and compilation plus the Hard copy portfolio.

    5. Lack information about your final project such as why you design it that way.. and why this and that about your layout etc.
